A little bit about us:

Luke was born in the OKC area and homeschooled 1st through 12th grade. His family moved to Tulsa at the age of 11 and he has lived in the area since. In highschool he took Spanish, geometry, and computer classes at Cornerstone Tutorial Center, a local homeschool co-op.

Luke took computer and design classes at Tulsa Technology Center in 11th and 12th grade and then went to Union University in Jackson, TN where he earned a BA in Digital Media.

Shandra was raised in the Tulsa area and was homeschooled K-12th. She also attended Cornerstone Tutorial Center and Tulsa Technology Center. After a life-threatening appendix rupture and emergency surgery, a 2 year-long recovery prevented her from attending college.

We started dating towards the end of high school and married after Luke graduated college. We now have two children and one on the way. Both of our boys were born at home with a midwife and that is our hope for baby #3 as well. Shandra is passionate about natural living and, after her appendix rupture, threw herself into preventive and healthy living. (A very near-death experience will do that to you.)

Lincoln is officially starting Pre-K this fall. It may be the beginning of his formal education; but, as any homeschool family knows, everything can be made into a lesson and this has been the case for Lincoln his whole life. Luckily, he isn’t quite old enough to understand and complain about all the subtle lessons, but we know this will be just around the corner. Spencer is one-and-a-half and into everything; developing some much-needed understanding of things like gravity and natural consequences.

Our family is heavily involved in our church and we feel passionate about serving our city and the people in our church. Christ-likeness and discipleship is at the core of our family’s values. We strive to raise children that know God because they see it in their parents’ lives, in the lives of the people we surround our children with, and through opportunities we intentionally plant our children into that foster that relationship.

We are very excited to be taking over Oklahoma Homeschool (albeit a little nervous at the same time!). Shandra has known Cindy for as long as she can remember volunteering with Cindy at public libraries, church, and at Oklahoma Homeschool. She learned how to design and update newsletters; sorted, alphabetized, repaired, and loved all the books in Cindy’s homeschool library (which reached around 3,000 books at one point); and generally did whatever else needed doing to help.

In the coming months we are going to be working with Cindy and slowly begin taking over OKHS bit by bit. Taking on Cindy’s baby that she has built from the ground up is a huge honor and we take it very seriously. We hope to carry on Cindy’s legacy and continue to provide support and aid for fellow homeschool families in Oklahoma and all over the world.

While we hope to make the transition as smooth as possible both for us and for all of you faithful OKHS patrons, we ask for your patience in this time. As Cindy recently reminded us, “Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither was OKHS!” Embarking on such a big venture is quite the undertaking but we greatly look forward to getting to know and serving you in the near future!

Luke and Shandra Pinion
