Project Savor 2019

If you're anything like me, you're probably starting out the year with a new planner, tons of different to do lists, goals, and plans for the coming months, and a head that is spinning just a little as you try to get back into the swing of things now that the holidays are all behind us.

With a new baby due this month, my husband starting a new job, and trying to get as much school in as possible before we have to break while I'm on 'maternity leave' (the teacher part of me gets a break but everyone knows the mom side never gets a break!), we are swamped in to do lists and shopping lists and last minute projects.

We'll get there and I know it'll all work out in the end but I do have my moments here and there were all the stuff feels overwhelming.

I wanted to remind you all, as I am myself, to stop and savor this moment. Savor this year. Don't just rush and fly through this season, whatever your season may be, but take some time to let yourself enjoy the little things and treasure the time you're in. Every season has an ending and whether or not you are going to mourn the end of the season you're in or celebrate it, it is still a season of your life and it is still where you are right now. Don't forget that even the hard seasons help to shape you into who you are going to be.

Last year I caught the ebook version of Savor on sale and read through the latter portion of it and this year I hope to read it from the beginning. I wanted to share the book with you (and the ebook is on sale for $4.99 again for a short time!).

I am not usually a fan of 365 daily devotionals. They rarely have enough meat to them and usually don't hold my attention, but Shauna Niequist has a way of pulling you in and I recommend this little devo to you, especially if you have very little time to sit and read for very long each day. Having a new baby this year, I know that realistically my quiet times are going to be quick, sporadic, and sometimes non-existent, but these daily thoughts are quick to read and will provide me a way to recenter on my goal to enjoy the here and now, savor my life, savor my blessings, and enjoy the season I'm in.

With 1-3 pages of material think grocery pick up wait, that 90 seconds of peace you get when you announce school is done for the day, while you're stirring rice for dinner, or literally 2 minutes before your head hits the pillow at the end of your day. You can find a moment somewhere in your day to read such a short thought and these small moments of discipline will help to recenter your mind and soul no matter the chaos around you.

If you have time for a little meatier material in your season of life, here are the other books on my 2019 read list that stick with the same theme:
Present Over Perfect
Chasing Slow
Simply Tuesday

So here's to a new year, to growing our family, to lots of changes and little sleep, and hopefully to a moment here and there where I truly learn what it means to cherish all of the blessings God has given me regardless (or maybe in spite of) my many lists!

Happy reading!
