Valentines Craft

We love any reason or excuse to create artsy things. My 5 year old hears the world "paint" and gets giddy with joy. Little brother feeds on the excitement too, so craft time is a big hit around here. Most kids like to do things with their hands and letting them be creative is so much fun!

I wanted to share a fun craft we did a while back that would work great as a Valentines gift for grandmas, aunts, teachers, and friends.

Flowers made just for Mimi!

Homemade bouquet fresh from the garden, er, school room!  These took very few supplies and the mess/labor was minimal.

Needed Supplies:
Egg carton
Ribbon
Beads (Filigree beads are our favorites!)
Glue
Shish kabob skewers
Paint or markers

Adding the flowers to a jar makes them look so pretty and complete!
Wrap a ribbon around the jar for extra frill!

Step 1

Cut out the cups from an empty egg carton and then paint the inside and outside of each one. You could also use markers if you are trying to keep the mess to a minimum.

Step 2
Cut ribbons to be about 4-5" long (We had some leftover scraps from another project that were perfect for this). Once we picked out our favorites we grouped them into piles of 2-4 ribbon pieces.

Step 3
Once the carton pieces are dry, stab the sharp part of the bamboo skewers into the bottom of the egg carton "cup" and push it through a few inches.

Step 4
Tie the ribbons onto the skewer ends.

Step 5
Put a dab of glue inside the egg "cup" and on the tip of the skewer (I added a little to some of the ribbon, too, to ensure they didn't come untied too easily). Place the bead on the tip of the skewer and pull the skewer down until the bead and ribbons are nestled comfortably inside the egg "cup". Hold for a few seconds to make sure everything is in place and then set aside to dry completely.

I hope you're able to create your own bouquets this Valentines, or at least get a few ideas from this post!

Happy Crafting!
